KMS Teaching Philosophy
• Academics are important at KMS! At KMS, we believe that students must show the same
  desire in their course work that they do on the slopes.
• More than 60% of our faculty members hold advanced degrees and more than half have
  15 or more years of teaching experience.

Phillip Anderson - Social Studies [ e-mail ]

Phil holds a bachelor's degree in history and theatre from Gettysburg College and a master's degree in teaching secondary school social studies from Boston University. He has taught high school in New Hampshire, Virginia and for two years at the American International School in Sydney, Australia. Phil also was a Fundraising Projects Coordinator for WGBH in Boston. Phil is also the head of dorm.

Angela has a master's degree in philosophy from the University of Memphis and a fifth year degree in education from the University of Vermont; she obtained her bachelor's in English and Communications at Lyndon State College. In addition to her several years of experience at KMS, she has taught English as a second language in Greece.

Jon has a master's degree in science from Castleton State College and a bachelor's degree in social sciences from the College of St. Joseph. Jon has taught a wide variety of classes at KMS over the years including chemistry, tech ed, business, general sciences and astronomy. Throughout the year, he is the caretaker of the KMS campus. John enjoys working on his 14-acre sugarbush and making maple syrup.

Phillip holds a bachelor's degree in history from Cornerstone College as well as a master's degree from Norwich University and has completed his coursework for a Master of Education degree in Educational Technology from the University of Toronto. He has taught at Rutland Academy, Community College of Vermont, and Champlain College. Phillip has also had several years of experience as a computer cartographer living in the Middle East.

Catherine Degnon - English/Latin [ e-mail ]

Catherine holds a master of education degree from Harvard and an honors bachelor of arts degree in geography from the University of Michigan. She has taught at Stratton Mountain School, Mount Mansfield Winter Academy, Applewild School, Waring School, and at Salem State College. She has also served as director of education at the Peabody Museum of Salem, managing editor at SAIL Magazine, editor of Reed's Nautical Almanac and worked as both an East Coast and overseas tour leader. For 16 months in the mid-2000s, she and her family (plus dog and cat) lived aboard their ketch, cruising the North American East Coast and the Bahamas.

Nancy has a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Vermont. She was a member of the UVM cross-country ski team for four years and of the All-East Team for two years. She is an avid ice-hockey player and is section-hiking the Appalachian Trail with her husband on the 10-year plan.

Julie has a bachelor's degree in German from William Smith College and a master of education degree from Southampton College. She has taught in Springfield, Mass., Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and Nantucket, Mass. While not at KMS, she teaches, works, and volunteers for the Appalachian Mountain Club. Julie is an avid hiker, trail runner and backcountry skier.

A Vermont native who has been playing on the slopes of Killington since 1983, Heather House earned her bachelor's degree from the College of Saint Joseph and her associates in paralegal studies from Woodbury College. Crowned "Queen of the Mountain" in the local Ski Bum Series for the last five years, Heather has also taught social studies at the high school level and coached various soccer and snowboarding teams.

Jon holds a bachelor of music degree in jazz studies from the University of North Texas. When not teaching KMS students, he can often be spotted playing drums with Joey Leone's Chop Shop.

Jennifer Iannantuoni - Italian [ e-mail ]

Jennifer has a bachelor's degree in Italian from Wellesley College and a juris doctor degree from the University of Connecticut. She was born and raised in Killington and returned after living in New York City. Jennifer and her husband have a son and a daughter.

Maeve holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry and a bachelor's degree in Russian Studies from the University of Richmond. When she is not at school, she is busy raising organic crops and dairy products on her farm in Shrewsbury, Vt.

James holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from the State University of New York at Oneonta. He has taught at Galway High School and at Doyle Middle School and has been active as a Little League coach and a tutor at the Math Learning Center at Arlington High School.

Sarah Mills - French and Spanish [ e-mail ]

Sarah graduated from England's Oxford University with a bachelor's degree in French and Spanish. She has taught in Cuenca, Spain as well as at Milton Academy and at the Fessenden School in Massachusetts. She has a background in educational television, working first for the BBC in London, producing language-teaching series such as "Working with the Spanish" and "English Zone," and later for WGBH children's department in Boston as associate producer on the Emmy Award-winning series "Peep and the Big Wide World."

Pala holds a bachelor's degree in literature and theatre from Bennington College, a master of fine arts degree from the New York University School of the Arts in Theatre, and a master of teaching from Bennington College. She taught at Mt. Anthony Union High School in Vermont and Louis Brandeis High School in New York City before coming to KMS and has also worked at WNET, the PBS television station in New York City, as a manager of project development and marketing.

Nancy holds a bachelor's degree in English, theater, and secondary education from College of the Holy Cross as well as a master's in education from Saint Michael's College. She has over three decades of experience in education at all levels from pre-school to adult education; most recently, she has been teaching at Vermont Technical College and Community College of Vermont. An avid alpine skier since the age of 12 and a Nordic skier since arriving in Vermont in 1977, Nancy enjoys unwinding on the trails that wind through the woods near her home in Brookfield. She feels KMS is the perfect learning community to bridge her interests in education and skiing!

Denise holds a BA in French from the State University of New York at Oswego and a BS in Education from the University of Vermont. Her teaching license is endorsed in Bilingual Education and French. She earned a TESOL certificate through the School for International Training. Denise established a French program at the Rutland Area Christian School, has taught at Rutland High School, Stafford Technical School night courses and has done private tutoring in French and ESL. She homeschooled her four children and taught English as a Second Language for a short time in Poland.

Casey holds a bachelor's degree in history and secondary education from Castleton State College. He taught last year at KMS as a BOOST teacher and also worked at Rutland High School. Casey also enjoys skiing, going to the movies and reading.

Sally holds a bachelor of science degree in biology and health sciences from the State University of New York, Brockport. Sally has over 35 years of teaching experience in public middle schools and at SUNY Brockport. She teaches psychology, anatomy & physiology, sports medicine and health at KMS. Sally is incredibly energetic and barely skipped a beat when she broke her neck, clavicle and hand two years ago.

Dawn earned a bachelor's degree in anthropology from Oregon State University and holds a doctor of philosophy degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts. Dawn has taught at Castleton State College, the University of Vermont, Champlain College, College of St. Joseph, University of Massachusetts, and Otter Valley Union High School. She has also been a senior field representative for the AFT of Vermont.

Michael holds a BS from Bloomsburg State College and completed graduate work in chemistry at George Mason University. He holds a Vermont State Teaching License and has been certified as a highly qualified teacher. He enjoys kayaking, hiking, and cross-country skiing.

Katherine Stahle - Biology [ e-mail ]

Affectionately known as "Gerbil," Katherine holds a master of science degree in clinical psychology from Appalachian State University and a bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology from Appalachian State University. She came to Vermont in 1978 expecting to stay one year to teach skiing and ski patrol. She is still here but now teaches science at KMS and is a professional patroller at Killington. She is also an instructor trainer for the National Ski Patrol and for the American Red Cross. She also teaches various science and sociology courses at the College of St. Joseph.

Benjamin Todt - Physics [ e-mail ]

Benjamin holds a bachelor's degree with a physics major from Bethel University and a master of science degree in physics from Montana State University and has taught physics as a teaching assistant at Montana State University and at Bethel University. He is an avid cyclist on both road and mountain bikes.

Steven Tuckerman - Math [ e-mail ]

Steven holds a bachelor's in mathematics and a bachelor's in education from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, a master of public administration degree from the University of Maine at Orono, a master of science degree in regional planning from the University of Massachusetts, and a bachelor's in resource planning from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. In addition to spending lots of time earning degrees, Steven has taught in the Danville Area Public Schools, the Millville Area Public Schools, the Shikellamy School District, and the Mount Carmel Area School District as well as serving as the town manager of Hermon, Maine and the town planner of Old Town, Maine as well as the town planner for Southington, Coventry and East Hampton, Conn. Steve is an avid Nordic and alpine skier, runner, hiker, and canoeist. Steve was the New England whitewater slalom champion in the C-1 recreational division in the early '90s.

Marissa holds a bachelor's degree in secondary mathematics education from the University of Delaware. Marissa has taught at Concord High School. This is her first teaching job and she is excited to be working at KMS.

Andrew Whyte - Spanish [ e-mail ]

Andrew Whyte graduated from Middlebury College, and studied abroad at the Universidad de Concepci??n in Chile. During his childhood, his family lived in the Dominican Republic, and more recently Andrew has lived in Alicante, Spain. His travels include a circumnavigation of the world by sailboat, and before joining us at Killington, Andrew was teaching Spanish in the public school system in Manchester, Vt.
