Tao Smith, Head of School, B.A. Religion/History, University of Vermont. Tao's concern for students' success academically and athletically is unparalleled and exemplifies the mission of Killington Mountain School. Ten years ago, Tao left a faculty member position at Gould Academy to take up running the Killington Mountain School; he has been singularly devoted to the success and growth of the school ever since. In his free time Tao enjoys riding his bike, fishing and playing in the Vermont hills and on the coastal beaches of Long Island with his wife, Dawn, and their six children.

Deb began coaching at Killington in 1995 and is now a USSA Level 2 Aerial Coach. She is the 2010 USSA Freestyle Domestic Coach of the Year and the 2010 Gold Level Award Winner - USSA Development Coach of the Year. Deb oversees and coaches all levels of the freestyle program including the weekend program athletes up through the KMS full time and Nor AM Level athletes. She is Chairman of the Eastern Division Freestyle Committee since 2002, Co-Camp Director and one of head coaches of PSI Bandit Ramp Camps, and coaches at PSI Whistler and PSI Australia. She holds a Masters in Education from Castleton State College. Deb enjoys working on her home with Matt and watching Sam and Charlie, their children, develop a passion for skiing greater than hers.

Tom Sell // Alpine Program Director [ e-mail ]
Tom brings more than 25 years of experience to KMS. He returned to KMS in 2009 after working with the US Ski Team where he was Men's World Cup SL and GS coach before taking over as Men's development team head coach, then moving to the Europa cup team as head tech coach. Tom was the Men's head coach at KMS in 2004-05. He was the men's Head FIS coach at Stratton Mt School, where he worked for 11 years and head coach at Gould Academy from 2002-2004.

Joe MacPherson // Director of Business Operations [ e-mail ]
After four years of life as the business manager at West Nottingham Academy, a boarding school in Colora, Maryland, Joe MacPherson, and his wife, Van, realized that they missed Vermont and needed to return. Joe had left Vermont for Maryland after managing business operations for Thetford Academy for eight years, where he installed a networked accounting system, converted payroll from a contracted service bureau to in-house preparation with direct deposit, and implemented a zero-based budget system. His depth of experience in academic settings similar to KMS, as well as his financial knowledge that stems from years as a certified public accountant in Virginia and Vermont, is a welcome addition, helping to build for the future of KMS.

In 2009, Margaret joined KMS after three years at Stratton Mountain School where she coached J3/4s and served as the FAST Program Director. She was the BOOST Program Director for KMS last season. She graduated from Babson College with a B.S. in Business Management. While at Babson, Margaret was a standout athlete in both lacrosse and alpine ski racing. She is currently working towards her Masters In Education Leadership from University of Vermont. In her free time she volunteers for the Killington Fire Rescue as an EMT-B.
