Nick Keating '10 led the freestyle team this week, taking third place for the first Nor Am podium finish of his career at British Columbia's Apex Mountain Resort. Darius Baradaran took ninth and Thomas Rowley tenth, joining alum Sterling Crescimanno '10 in the top 10, a career first for all three skiers.  Kelsey Albert took sixth on the women's side to make five skiers in the top 10. Lizzy Smith '09 took 24th and Megan Moores took 30th to round out the women's top 30.

In dual moguls competition on the following day, Lizzy took eighth to lead Megan (25) and Kelsey (30) in the top 30, while Thomas took 12th, Nick 18th, and Darius 20th for the men.

Last week's Nor Am opener in Telluride saw Nick lead the KMS competitors with seventh- and 11th-place finishes, while Kelsey led the women with 13th- and ninth-place results. They were joined in the top 30 by Darius (22, 15) and Thomas (22) on the men's side and by Lizzy (18 and 29) and Megan (26) on the women's side. Nor Am competition continues this week in Quebec before returning to Killington for Nor Am finals, with moguls competition on Friday, Feb. 24 and dual moguls competition on Sunday, Feb. 26. Volunteers are needed for the upcoming event at Killington; please contact Deb Newson (dnewson@killingtonmountainschool.org) if you'd like to be part of the crew that makes the event possible—the coaches and athletes greatly appreciate your support!

Meanwhile at the Stratton Mogul Fest, KMS and KSC/KMS freestyle teams continued their string of successes in the Eastern Championship Series. Alta Curtis '09 took the overall women's win with victories in both moguls and dual moguls. She was joined on the women's mogul podium by Kayla Burcin, who took third place, while Kat Spilman took fourth, Kat DiMascio took seventh and Hannah Soar took ninth to claim half of the top 10. The men couldn't quite keep up with the women but still had three top-10 finishes as Tyler Wadhams '11 took fourth, Nick Marino took sixth and John Lauria took ninth. Rounding out the women's top 30 was Christina O'Brien, taking 18th, while Ethan Chapman (19) and Ian Beauregard (29) filled out the men's top 30. Sunday's dual moguls competition again saw Alta in the top spot; she was joined on the podium by Kat Spilman, who took second. Hannah Soar took seven to round out the women's top eight, while Nick took fourth and Tyler sixth in the men's competition.

KMS and KSC/KMS J3 racers dominated the Mid-Vermont Council races this past Sunday and Monday as Piper Jenne won both races to lead 17 racers in the top 10. Sunday saw single-digit temperatures and a giant slalom, the first of two MVC races on Needles Eye. Piper took the girls' win to lead Sarah Mason (3), Katherine Nelligan (5), Taylor Dobyns (6), Holly Olson (8) and Marina Rotella (10)—who had the fastest second run in the girls' field—into the top 10. On the boys' side, Cam Heald skied his way onto the podium, while Ian Clarke put down the second-fastest second run to take fourth and first-run winner Jonny Schwartz, who landed in sixth, joined him in the top 10. Raichle Johnson (12), William Coen (12), Cassidy Bebo (13), Noa Schwartz (15), Elizabeth Brown (23), Erik Weiss (28), and Will Cannistrano (29) rounded out the 16 top-30 finishes from KMS and KSC/KMS racers, while Ava Mattsson had the fastest first run for the girls' field.

Under partly cloudy skies, Mid-Vermont Council racing returned to Needles Eye on Monday for Super-G competition. Piper again took the win and was joined on the podium by Marina (2) and Ava (3) for a clean sweep; Katherine Nelligan took fifth and Taylor Dobyns eighth to round out the girls' top 10, while Jonny led the boys in second place ahead of Ian (5) and Cam Heald (6).

Piper skis her second win of the weekend.

"Our athletes did a great job of adjusting their tactics from the training run to the race run, taking a more aggressive line on the pitch and bringing more shape on the last delay coming onto the flats to maintain their momentum. Those changes paid off with great results," said head J3 coach Lon Brettell.

Rounding out Monday's top 30 were Raichle (11), Holly (12), Cassidy (15), Noa (16), Erik (20), Elizabeth (23), Patrick Salisbury-Jennings (27), Taylor Hart (28) and Spencer Wood (30).

Monday's race—the last of the MVC regular season—marked the fifth team win in a row for KMS and KSC/KMS racers. J3 State Championships begin this Thursday and Friday at Sugarbush, with boys racing on Thursday and girls racing on Friday.

Andrew Kimbell took the victory in the second chess tournament of the year after defeating James Ferri in the finals, earning another point for Team Korn in the process. The Rockets retain the overall lead with 46 points, buoyed by spirit points awarded to Logan Farmer for community spirit, while Oyster Cult hangs on to second-place with 38 total points, maintaining a small margin over Korn's 36 points thanks in part to Dan Schwartz's recent point for community spirit. The People-Eaters remain in fourth place with 32 points, just ahead of the Dragons (31 points) and the Fury (30 points). The third chess tournament of the year is ongoing, with some of the toughest battles to date—Kenny McNeill rebounded from a weak position to force a stalemate and a rematch against Tao Smith—while sign-ups are underway for a checkers tournament and a spring talent show.

The freeskiing team continued to score top results in USSA regional competitions as team members collected eight top-20 finishes at the Maine Open this past weekend. Combined with last weekend's Vermont Open—in which the team collected more top finishes than in any other USSA competition in its history—and other USSA events this year, the team has scored more top-10, top-15, and top-20 results in USSA competition than ever before.

Tec Calcagni led the way on Friday, taking 10th place—the first top-10 USSA result of his career—at Sunday River. He was joined in the top 20 by Jack Sylvester (11), Ari (13), Cooper Babbitt (14) and Eric Unterberger (20). After checking out the nighttime rail setup Friday night, the team put another strong performance in on Sunday. Jack led in seventh place and was joined in the top 30 by Cooper (15), Eric (20), Tec (26) and Devon (29).

Join us for the 28th annual KMS auction!

The 28th Annual KMS Auction & Dinner is less than three weeks away, and dinner tickets are on sale now and only available until Feb. 15—order yours today!

The KMS Auction is not only KMS's biggest single fundraising event of the year; it's also the largest social event of the year and brings together parents, friends, staff and faculty in support of the school. This year, we will honor Doug Casella and Craig Mosher, both of whom were instrumental in reconstruction efforts after Irene cut Killington's road links to the outside world. By their efforts and by the efforts of other Vermonters who made rebuilding a priority, roads were reopened and residents of the Killington area were able to get back to work and to school in days and weeks instead of months.

Auction items not to be missed this year include a one-of-a-kind engraved KMS stool; a chauffered snowcat trip to the new Motor Room Bar atop Devil's Fiddle, featuring cocktails and light fare for 10; two glider rides from the Warren airport that will showcase views of Vermont's Mad River Valley; use of a vacation home on Cape Code for a week; a week at Florida's world-famous Reunion Resort; and an original, '70s-vintage South Ridge Triple chair.

This triple carrier, installed in 1977, could be yours.
This South Ridge Triple chair is not only from the '70s—it's one of the night's auction items!

New this year, the excitement will continue after the auction with dancing to '70s tunes spun by Killington's D.J. Dave. Period costume is encouraged, so dust off your bellbottoms or head to eBay for the perfect outfit, and join us on Feb. 25!

Join us at 6:00 for hors d'œuvres and silent auction, enjoy dinner and the live auction, and dance your way back to the seventies, all in two weeks at the Killington Grand!
