Mogul teams take podiums in ECS and EQS competitions

January 26, 2012

With podiums at two regional events this past weekend, several student-athletes gearing up for Nor Am competitions with a Canadian training camp, and the opportunity to watch the best mogul skiers in the world at last week's Lake Placid World Cup, the mogul teams have continued their pursuit of excellence at all levels of competition.

ECS ("A") competition followed closely on the heels of Thursday's World Cup at Whiteface. On the same small moguls and slick snow conditions that had challenged the world's best athletes just days before, KMS student-athletes relied on their hard work and training to take five podium finishes in two days of competition. Tyler Wadhams '11 took the overall win by beating the field by over two points with both the fastest time and the highest turn score in Saturday's competition and then taking a fourth-place finish in Sunday's dual moguls event. On the women's side, Allison Benedict took second overall after finishing second on Saturday and winning the dual moguls competition on Sunday. Joining them on the combined podium was Abe Studler, who took third in both moguls and dual moguls competitions to land third overall and his first podiums on the ECS circuit.

Joining the podium finishers in Saturday's top 30 were Hannah Soar (5), Kat Spillman (7), Christina O'Brien (12), Alex Lewis (12), John Lauria (14), Trevor Wahl (22), Myles Frendel (23), and Colby Fisher (30), with Ian Beauregard close behind in 32nd position. In the dual moguls competition, Hannah (5) and Kat (7) joined Allison, Abe and Tyler in the top eight.

Meanwhile, in EQS competition at New York's Hunter Mountain, Madison Hogg led the way with a pair of second-place overall finishes. In Saturday's competition, she was closely followed by Jia Hong in fourth overall and second within her age group; they were joined in the top 30 by Olivia Giaccio (7), Kasey Hogg (11), Alexandra Lanka (12), Delphine Esformes (16) and Kassidy Lynch (20). On the boys' side, Stweart Olson led in fifth place, joining Blake Levitts (8), Ben Arquit (24), Griffin Ward (11), Devin Johnston (13), Luc Esformes (14), Christopher Imbarrato (16), Thomas Autiello (21), Cole Ward (28) and Frankie Giaccio (30) in the top 30. On Sunday, Madison again led the girls in second place and was joined in the top 30 by Olivia (4), Jia (7), Kasey (12), Maxie Hayden (10), Alexandra (13), Delphine (18) and Kassidy (25). On the boys' side, Stewart skied onto the podium with third overall, while Griffin (5) and Blake (6) were close on his heels and joined in the top 30 by Ben (9), Devin (15), Cole (20), Christopher (22), Thomas (28) and Frankie (30).
