KMS and KSC/KMS skicross racers led the charge at USASA Nationals; Mazie Hayden took the win in the Girls 10-12 division, while Taylor Doxsee '11 took the win in the Men's 18+ event. BOOST student-athlete Chloe Pultar took first in Girls 10-12 slopestyle as well as fourth in halfpipe and second amongst girls 13 and younger in the rail jam. Jack Sylvester added another podium to the tally with a second-place finish in Skier Men 13-15, while Tec Calcagni just missed the top 30 in that event and then took 10th in the halfpipe competition. Charlie Gnoza claimed a pair of podium finishes, taking third in both slopestyle and halfpipe competition for the nine-and-under crowd. In the Open Men's class, Ari Schneider took 13th in the halfpipe and 23rd in slopestyle, while KSC/KMS alum Matt Crowe took 15th in the halfpipe and 28th in slopestyle. Max Tarricone added two more top-30 results with a 16th-place finish in halfpipe and a 24th-place finish in slopestyle for the Boys 10-12 division.
On the snowboard side, Logan Farmer took the top KMS result with a consolation-final win in the Youth Men division for boardercross, adding a fifth-place finish in that event to a 13th-place finish in giant slalom and a 15th-place finish in slalom. BOOST student-athlete Sophie Anderson took seventh in slopestyle for Youth Women; KSC/KMS competitor Maggie Leon also rode into the top 30 with a 28th-place finish in the same division. Kamran Gossieaux took top-twenty finishes in both slalom and giant slalom in the Junior Men category, while BOOST student-athlete Shane Smith rode strong to move up 30 spots from his ranking in Breaker Boys slopestyle and then qualified for brackets in boardercross. Nikki Sardelli crashed in the Breaker Girls boardercross quarterfinals, finishing the day in 16th position.
With a top-10 overall finish at the 2012 Eastern J3 Championships, Piper Jenne qualified for this April's USSA National Development System camp in Utah. In Utah, she will be skiing with the top J3 athletes from ski racing clubs and ski academies across the country under the guidance of U.S. Ski Team coaches, using the same facilities both on and off the hill—including USSA's Center of Excellence—as U.S. Ski Team athletes.
Ian Clarke, Alli Price and Jonny Schwartz qualified for Am-Cans, a series pitting the top J3-age racers in the Eastern U.S. and Eastern Canada against each other. Held this year at Quebec's Mont Tremblant, the event saw Alli Price take fourth in the giant slalom and 10th in the slalom, while Jonny Schwartz was 17th both days.
Meanwhile at Maine's Sunday River Resort, BOOST student-athletes Matt Price, Bobby Ryan and Grace Vollers were competing in J4 Eastern Championships alongside Quechee racer and future BOOST athlete Julia Denny. Matt led the way with ninth in the giant slalom and 11th in the slalom, while Bobby took 25th in the giant slalom and put down the second-fastest first run in the slalom before hiking his way to a 44th-place finish. Based on their results, both Matt and Bobby qualified for Can-Am competition this weekend at Sugarloaf. Grace took 30th in the giant slalom and 32nd in the slalom, while Julia took 23rd in the GS.
In the last race of the 2012 MVC Jone Series, Mikayla Stolar took the top time for J-5 girls and was joined in that top 15 by Isabelle Jenne (4), Isabella Amico (7) and Devin Hart (15). For J-4 girls, Tessa Queirolo took fourth, Colleen Byron 10th, Felicia A. Ayer 24th and Julia Martin 25th; Caroline Ferri (31) just missed the top 30. Tanner Schultz took fifth and Brooks Reed 11th for J-5 boys, while Bobby Ryan led the J-4 boys in fourth. Joseph Salisbury-Jennings grabbed 10th while Paul Ferri (14 and attack from the back, moving up over 50 spots), Macgregor R. Peterson (17), Drake Mead (22), Andrew Desino (24), Dan Schwartz (25) and Matthew Zacko (30) rounded out the top 30; John Bianchi missed that mark by eighth hundredths of a second and landed in 31st. BOOST student-athlete Matt Price took second place in the first run but had trouble with the second run and ended the day in 16th.

One of 20 BOOST racers in this week's camp enjoys slalom training on Bunny Buster. |
Twenty ski racers from throughout the east came to KMS this past week for the BOOST holiday camp. With nine students in the dorm and 11 day students, these racers enjoyed a brief taste of the ski academy life and an opportunity to train with KMS coaches. The three-day camp featured double sessions on the hill as well as video review and, for dorm students, a proctored evening study hall.
Two-week BOOST sessions over the next two months provide an additional opportunity for younger student-athletes to enjoy the ski academy lifestyle. Student-athletes in this program study and train at KMS; check the KMS website for a full list of dates and contact Margaret Schlachter, admissions coordinator, for more information (mschlachter@killingtonmountainschool.org / 802.422.5671 x. 206). For more photos from Tuesday's slalom session on Bunny Buster, visit the KMS photo library.

Although contributions to the KMS Annual Fund are appreciated at any time, donations before December 31 are particularly helpful. Please visit our online giving site to make a donation today or call Barb Deubel at 802.422.5671 x. 216 to make a donation by phone.
The cyclocross season is wrapping up; the prestigious Verge series completed this past weekend with Ansel ranked fifth for juniors and with Erin Donohue taking her first two podiums of the series. The KMS Cycling Team will be racing at New England Cyclocross Championships on December 17-18 and will then be traveling to Madison, WIsc., for nationals in early January.
With one match remaining in the quarterfinal round of the KMS Chess Tournament, the blue team has staked out a strong position. Georgia Wood will face the winner of the Cameron Price vs. Graham Campson quarterfinal match, while Andrew Whyte will face Steve Tuckerman in the other semifinal.
Parent conferences are tomorrow, December 9, from 3 – 6 p.m. on the Morse Campus. Parents are asked check in at the front desk on arrival—a great time to drop off a bottle of wine for the KMS Wine Library to be auctioned in February—and please join faculty, staff, and trustees for a reception at Domenic's Pizzeria to follow the conferences.
The KMS Freeskiing Team will return to Colorado this Sunday in preparation for next week's Rev Tour halfpipe and slopestyle competitions.
