While racers and freestyle skiers needing specialized terrain and upper-level early season starts are training and competing in Austria and Colorado, student-athletes at Killington have benefitted from the world's most expansive snowmaking system as Killington Resort has taken advantage of several weather windows in an unusually warm November and December to provide as much quality skiing as possible. With support from Killington Resort and adjustments to the daily schedule, KMS has been able to continue providing training tailored to student-athletes at a range of competitive levels.

Athletes with early season international starts—such as those in Austria this week and at Alyeska, Alaska next week—have travelled to glaciers in the U.S. and Europe to emerge from their prep periods ready to race, and those who need early specialized terrain not yet available in the East—including the freestyle and freeskiing teams—have gone to Colorado and to British Columbia to be ready for their early season competitions. Meanwhile, those targeting regional competition have been able to ski on home snow and prepare for upcoming competitions in Vermont and throughout New England. With winter weather in the forecast, athletes, coaches, and staff are looking forward to the rapid terrain expansion and range of training opportunities that Killington can provide.

As the competition season approaches, KMS student-athletes are in the last stages of their pre-season preparation. They have spent many hours building their fitness levels, allowing them to perform at high levels throughout the demanding competition season, and on-snow work throughout the prep season will wrap up with camps throughout the West Coast and Canada in the coming weeks. Those camps will provide the student-athletes with the best possible preparation for early season competitions, some of which can qualify athletes for upper-level competition throughout the season.
