The Killington Mountain School Development Program offers young athletes the opportunity to participate in the complete KMS experience by training with our coaches and working with our teachers. The KMS Development Program is designed for student-athletes under the age of fifteen and offers an introduction to the KMS winter academy experience.

The Athletic Program

Development Program athletes follow the same daily schedule as our full-time students but have a specific progression designed for their stay at KMS. Typically, these athletes will spend the first few days doing directed free-skiing and drills before transitioning into gates and gate drills (alpine), terrain (snowboarding), or moguls and jumps (freestyle).

Development Program athletes will spend time following their own progression but will also train some days with the full-time students. Athletes should expect to leave the program having been introduced to many different drills and techniques that will benefit them during their competition season. They will also have the instruction in strength and fitness training, equipment maintenance, nutrition, sports science, and mental preparation.

The Academic Experience

Development Program students benefit from the unique academic program at KMS. Students work with our teachers in a one-to-one setting, following the curriculum provided by their home schools. In addition to traditional middle and high school curricula, our faculty teach courses in visual arts, performing arts, computer studies, health, and foreign languages. Monitored study hall is an integral component of the daily schedule.

Meals are shared with the full-time students in the school cafeteria. Activities in addition to training and school work are also offered to ensure a well-rounded and enjoyable experience, including trips to the mall or the movies, skating, rock climbing, etc.

Application Process

Prospective students should complete the KMS Application, which may be obtained by calling the school or by downloading the form from the website. The Application Supplement includes a checklist of additional items that must be submitted with the application. Development Program applicants only need to complete the 2nd and 3rd essay questions.

Applications received by April 30 will be included in the general admissions pool, with admissions decisions made by May 15. Applications received after April 30 will be considered on a space available basis. Deposits to reserve a spot must be received by June 15. Admitted students and their families will be invited to attend a new-student orientation during the summer.
