Nine-month program launches, student-athletes help with Irene cleanup Sep. 15, 2011 With a few adjustments for post-Irene transportation issues, Killington Mountain School launched its nine-month program on September 12, 2011. For the first time in the school's history, student-athletes would spend a full academic year in KMS classes.

[view email] Camps in progress as cycling team keeps rolling June 2011 As KMS student-athletes look forward to 2010-11 and step up their prep-season activities, the cycling team continues to put together impressive results, including a three-win, seven-podium performance at Whiteface and Saranac Lake. At nearby Lake Placid, freestyle and snowboard athletes are taking advantage of the water ramps, while Mammoth's incredible snowpack and great weather provides excellent opportunities for on-snow training. Wyatt Queirolo followed up his Super-G and super combined wins with the slalom and overall wins at K2 Nationals, J3s grabbed podium finishes, and freestyle athletes finished in the top 10 or finals at each of the four events at U.S. Freestyle Nationals.

[view email] Championships continue from regional to world levels March 23, 2011 Success has not slowed from last week's historic results, as Bryan Zemba took the World Junior Championship in dual moguls at Jyäskylä, Finland. Wyatt Queirolo won the first two races at Canadian K2 Nationals, while Spencer won three of four runs at J4 Eastern Championships. In regional action, KMS racers continued to ski fast in both J3 racing and seeded competition, while the freeride team skied into the top 15 at Mt. Snow and the snowboard team got USASA Nationals invitations.

[view email] Two junior national champions, an NCAA championship podium, and much, much more March 16, 2011 Nick Keating and Ari Schneider earned Junior National Championship titles in freestyle competition at Steamboat, while Zach Clayton '07 had a pair of top-10 finishes at NCAA Championships, including a third-place finish in slalom. J3s took a number of top-15 finishes at J3 Eastern Regionals, while Spencer Smith and Ava Mattsson won J4 State Champion titles. [view email] Scherding wins Vermont Cup, Freestyle sweeps Eastern Champs podium March 09, 2011 In alpine news, a number of racers put in top-15 performances at the Vermont Cup Finals slalom; Julian Scherding took the series win, and Andrew Kimbell finished third on the year. In freestyle news, KMS freestyle swept the top four spots in Eastern Divisional Championship men's moguls competition and scored many top-15 finishes.

[view email] J3 State Championships, Nor Am Finals, and a bit more March 02, 2011 Wyatt Queirolo led the J3 Team in finishes at State Championships; he added the GS and slalom titles to his Super-G victory earlier in the month. He was joined in the top 15 by a number of his teammates, and was one of seven KMS student-athletes named to the Vermont State Team for J3 Junior Olympics.
Meanwhile, Killington hosted Nor Am Cup Finals, in which the freestyle team had top-10 finishes in each event, the men's and women's alpine teams got in races at Pico and in Ontario, and the freeride crew swept the halfpipe podium at Mt. [view email] Podiums on home snow, a bit of foreign food and more Feb. 23, 2011 The freestyle team took podium finishes at all four events of the Killington Klassic, with Dan Rosenblum, Hannah Soar and Alta Curtis leading the way. Meanwhile, the J3s wrapped up their MVC season with a sixth team win and 16 skiers named to the J3 State Championship team. Foreign language classes got a taste of culture, while KMS student-athletes and alumni have continued to ski well on the Nor Am and collegiate circuits. This week, we also saw more success from KMS alumni racing in NCAA and USCSA circuits, the first Nor Am mogul competition of the year, some more top-10 freeride results, and more. [view email] Freeride, J3, and J4 victories; auction Saturday; and volunteering with Trailblazers Feb. 02, 2011 Dan Rosenblum won another pipe competition Saturday, taking his second consecutive Gatorade Free Flow Tour halfpipe victory and leading an impressive slate of freestyle and freeride results. On the alpine side, the men and women put down strong results at home, while the J3 and J4 team took three more team victories between them.
Meanwhile, the excitement has been building for Saturday's 27th Annual Auction and Dinner, and KMS student-athletes have been having a great time working with local elementary school students. [view email] Rev Tour win, racers skiing fast, and Auction tickets Jan. 19, 2011 Dan Rosenblum won the Mt. Hood, Oregon Rev Tour pipe competition, taking the first pipe victory of his career. Not to be outdone, the mogul team took six wins at the Bristol, N.Y. Toyota Freestyle Fest and the J4 team won the Beanpot.

[view email] Top-10 Mogul Maine-ia results, J3s claim the banner at Pico, and more Jan. 12, 2011 The KMS Freestyle Team took seven top-10 results and 10 top-20 results at this weekend's Mogul Maine-ia event at Sunday River, Maine; KMS student-athletes won both men's and women's competitions both weekend days.
Killington J3s again claimed the banner, taking the team victory for the second week in the row as race wins were backed up by a string of top-ten finishes.
Mark Grundy '09 was one of many KMS racers skiing fast this weekend, while the KMS Freeride Team put a number of athletes in the top 30 and the ad copy deadline for the KMS Auction was extended to this Friday, January 14. [view email] J3s take the banner; J4s take the Beanpot; Olympians visit and more Jan. 5, 2011 Exciting results came in from the alpine and freestyle programs, as the J4s took the Beanpot at the Quechee MVC race, the J3s put five student-athletes on the podium and took the banner at Suicide Six, the alpine men and women took podium spots in the second Vermont Cup of the season, and freestyle took a podium and a number of top-ten spots at Sugarloaf's Greg Francoeur Memorial competition.

[view email] Bryan Zemba wins at U.S. Selections; 11 podiums and many top-15 results Dec. 22, 2010 Bryan Zemba took the win at day two of the U.S. Freestyle Selections in Steamboat Springs, Colorado as he topped a high-level field that included the two newest members of the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team. He was joined in the top sixteen by five other KMS athletes.
Julian Scherding won the Vermont Cup slalom at Killington, leading six Killington men in the top ten, while Dan Rosenblum took 16th in the Rev Tour pipe competition at Copper Mountain, Colorado. Back East, the KMS and KWSC/KMS Freeride Teams put in a strong showing at the K-Town Showdown, the snowboard teams took a number of podiums at a USASA GS, and the men's alpine team put down a lot of good runs at Attitash Open FIS races. [view email] KMS Helps Killington Patrol & a few reminders Nov. 17, 2010 2010 marked the second year in which KMS student-athletes were able to help Killington patrollers install skier awareness devices in preparation for further terrain opening. KMS student-athletes were able to help with 10 of Killington's chairlift lines and got a better appreciation of the amount of work involved in preparing for skiing in the process.

Finally, and with deep sadness, we inform you of the passing of a beloved former teacher and dedicated director of studies. Jay Rodenberger passed away on Nov. 6, 2010, and the KMS community is saddened by the loss. [view email] First day on snow, first comp of the season, and Halloween Nov. 03, 2010 Tuesday's opening at Killington Resort allowed KMS student-athletes to get on home snow, enjoying some of the best snow in the east only two days after arriving for the year.

The KMS Golf Tournament is a great opportunity to support the school and its programs. Proceeds from this event benefit the Athletic Fund and ensure that our student-athletes continue to have the resources, equipment and facilities they need in order to reach their academic and athletic potentials.

A busy summer camp season is wrapping up, with the last on-campus dryland camp in progress and freestyle student-athletes finishing their Australian journey. Between the alpine, freestyle, and BOOST programs, KMS has been involved in training camps every day since June 24—a streak that ends on August 27, encompassing over two months of prep-season training.
