Stellar Snowboard weekend

Two days, three athletes, six races, and ten podiums. The Killington Mountain School Snowboard team kicked off the 2017 Southern Vermont USASA Series with a stellar weekend. Fresh off a week of SnowboardCross training in Canada at Ski Bromont, Matt Miller and Xavier Kennedy teamed up with Liam Scott to blast through Southern Vermont Alpine Snowboard events this weekend. Saturday saw Killington Ski Club and KMS host the kick off events for Southern Vermont with both Slalom and Giant Slalom races. Matt Miller dominated the event by winning the Open class in both SL and GS a longing with posting fastest times of the day in each discipline. KMS veteran Liam Scott and new team addition Xavier Kennedy raced hard and well in their first USASA events on hard boots. KMS Snowboard director Jeff Juneau commented on the event, "It was a great weekend for racing SL and GS. We were very fortunate to host the first event in the Southern Vermont series at Killington on Saturday. Thanks to the excellent KSC event staff, Killington Resort, and the USASA crew we treated visiting athletes and coaches to an exemplary event. Immediately following the race, the Directors of the So VT Series asked to meet with Chuck Hughes in order to thank him and discuss adding more events in the future at Killington." Sunday saw the team travel to Bromley for a double-doubleheader. They ran parallel courses (side by side) allowing for two Slalom races in morning and two GS races in the afternoon. Eight race runs in a day can take its toll, but out KMS athletes exceeded expectations. Matt Miller had some stiff competition with visiting Southern Vermont series veteran and top ten NorAm athlete Dylan Udolf in the start gate. Matt earned a very strong showing taking home four Silver medals along with second fastest times in both SL and GS. His performances this weekend cinched him the Southern Vt series Men's Open Class title and a spot in both events at the USASA Nationals in April at Copper Mountain. Liam Scott and Xavier Kennedy both found their race legs on Sunday to earn two podium spots each. Liam earned a Bronze in SL, and Silver in GS. Xavier earned Bronzes in both SL and GS. Coach Juneau noted "Liam and Xavier have really taken to their new race setups. They have trained hard, stayed focused, and executed at a very high level. It was great to see them represent KMS so well both on the hill and the podium."
