The school that skis, costumes, and carves together, stays together

Winter-term is in full swing at KMS, with dorm students moving in on Sunday and the entire group joining together on Monday for orientation. A significant portion of the school was missing however, with an Alpine group off training in Stubai, Austria and the cyclists away competing, and they were greatly missed. Despite missing roughly 30 students, there was still a big group on-hand for the day, which kicked off with some ice breaker activities before jumping in vehicles and heading up to the hill

After the gondola ride up and the trip down the Peak Walkway, everyone gathered at the top of Rime and Reason to take a few runs together. Freestyle, Alpine, Snowboard, and Ski Cross athletes alike took to the trails with KMS coaches, teachers, and staff, everyone appreciating the early-season opportunity to be on-snow.

The walk back up to the Peak was a bit more challenging than the walk down, and most could agree it felt good to take a seat on the gondola for the ride down to the bottom of the hill. Before heading back to campus it was all hands on deck to help roll some B net that will be used during the World Cup races. Many hands make light work, and the job was complete in no time.

Once everyone was back on campus it was time for lunch and then a costume contest. With House points on the line, the competition was fierce, and the ultimate winner was Gerbil as a mystical fortune teller, with Gar Trayner close behind in second place as an overly inflated and rotund personal trainer, and finally Pete Girardi dressed as KMS Cycling Alum, Noah Barrow. EK Robinson-Leith did well in the voting with her Canadian one-piece pj's and Spencer Belsky made everyone chuckle as he dressed up as none other than teammate, Cam Robinson!

The group then split into house teams for the pumpkin carving contest, with each team given three pumpkins and instructions to use all three in whatever way they wanted, but that they had to use all three. Each group quickly came up with a concept and got to work. Voting for the winning pumpkins took place online via Google Form, with Purple again reigning victorious in yet another competition!

All in all, it was a great day to be together and reconnect with old friends as well as get acquainted with new ones as we head into what is sure to be an active and hopefully very snowy winter!
