Student of the Week - March 16, 2017
Congratulations to Quin Taylor who was named Student of the Week at Wednesday's all-school meeting. Quin is an 11th grade Alpine athlete who comes to KMS from Chestertown, NY. He was nominated for this award by History Department Chair Courtney O'Keefe, who shared her recent observations of Quin in her class, "Over the past three weeks, Quin has made great strides in US History. He has become more focused in his work, asking questions and actively seeking clarification when confused or when he wishes to double check if he is understanding what is being asked of him correctly. He makes appointments with me to come in and talk about his work, has asked how to improve his grades and his work , and has become more vocal in class discussion. " Math Department Chair Steve Tuckerman agreed, "Quin has been putting in a great deal of effort, and I often see him studying in the conference room." Science Deparment Chair Terri Isidro has noticed Quin's increased effort as well. She shared, "I have seen Quinten make a very concerted effort to learn, participate, and be responsible for turning in his assignments and keeping up with his work. Not only has he successfully accomplished this, but also he works really hard to understand concepts and is doing a great job with some very complex subject matter in chemistry. Quin is also incredibly respectful and models excellent behavior in class and in lab. He is also very responsive, and is in fact one student I can always count on to reply promptly and politely to emails. He is an all around great person who is an excellent example of how a student can achieve change in a short time period with concerted effort and a positive attitude! English Department Chair Alex Crivici agreed, "I would also like to nominate Quin. Quin exudes much more confidence than in the beginning of the year, and this is evident in both his writing and his spoken word. Quin often leads class discussions and during our Socratic Seminars, Quin exceeds the expectation of just participating. As a student of English literature, Quin has a strong ability to read beneath the text and think critically. Keep up the awesome work, Quin!" Finally, World Languages Department Chair Claudia Revenko-Bowen added her impression of Quin's recent work, "Quin continually shows interest and enthusiasm for everything we do in Spanish and in our TEDed course. He has been consistently progressing in Spanish, actively participating in class tasks, and making a sincere effort to improve his language, and even salsa dancing skills! It is quite noticeable how Quin has matured academically this year by responding positively to challenges, and asking to meet with me for extra help in both classes. Great work Quin!" Very well done, Quin! Keep up the good work!
