Student of the Week - April 5, 2017

April 5, 2017

Congratulations to Francesca Castellini who was named Student of the Week at Wednesday's all-school meeting. Francesca is a tenth grade Alpine athlete who comes to KMS from Killington, VT. She was nominated for this award by Science Department Chair Terri Isidro who explained, "Francesca displays a strong work ethic, good critical thinking, and excellent responsibility in Biology class. She follows directions and always asks for clarification which helps her to have a solid understanding of labs and assignments. Franny contributes to class instruction and discussion positively and gives her best effort. She has shown increasing responsibility and work ethic in my class over the year, and I want to recognize that!" English Department Chair Alex Crivici seconded the nomination, sharing her assessment of Francesca's recent work, "I, too, would like to nominate Franny. Franny displays mastery of higher level critical thinking during English Class. This is due to the fact that she reads and comprehends literature very well, but more importantly it is because Franny is curious. Franny does not just want to do well, but she wants to understand. This is what differentiates Franny as a top tier student, and as a lifelong learner." Math Department Chair Steve Tuckerman echoed the sentiments about Francesca's work ethic, commenting "Franny works very hard in math, putting in the effort in all assignments, and is a pleasure to have in class." Finally, History Department Chair Courtney O'Keefe added her praise for Franny, "Franny is one of my strongest students in my U.S. History course this year. Not only is she a positive presence in my classroom, but I can always count of her to help her peers understand what we are learning as well as contribute meaningfully to any classroom discussion. Her work is always of high quality, showcasing a student who truly cares about how she presents herself and her understanding in her final assignments. She asks really great, thought-provoking questions and is always ready to utilize her strong critical-thinking skills to understand the material we are studying. But, more importantly, she is someone who demonstrates a strong interest in history. For her, it is more than just memorizing facts or getting the assignment done. She focuses much of her energy in class trying to understand the context of historical events and the psychology behind human actions and thinking. It has been a pleasure to hear her ideas in class these past few weeks. Way to go, Franny!" Nice work, Franny!
