The Killington Ski Club/Killington Mountain School (KSC/KMS) Freestyle Program has been named the U.S. Ski & Snowboard (USSS) Freestyle Club of the Year for 2019. This is the second time in four years that the Club has earned this distinction. This past week, Freestyle Program Director Kris Pepe traveled to Park City, UT to receive the award on behalf of the program at the USSS Chairman’s Awards Dinner. Pepe commented that “as a well rounded, community based program, KSC/KMS Freestyle is able to achieve competitive success at each level, including, enrollment growth, as well as a strong commitment to events and facilities." Pepe continued, "The athletes, coaches and parents, who are passionately committed to the sport of Freestyle Skiing, are the foundation of our program.” Tiger Shaw, the President and CEO of U.S. Ski & Snowboard congratulated KSC/KMS, saying that the program, “has distinguished itself in providing direction to young athletes through high-level competition programs resulting in athletic success.” While there were many notable results and achievements throughout the KSC/KMS Freestyle season at all levels, some highlights include winning the Jr. National Championship title, two athletes achieving World Cup starts, three athletes being named to the Jr. World Championship Team, as well as an athlete being named to the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team. Along with these top-tier finishes, the development level thrived, clinching 16 overall victories throughout the regular season. In the postseason, KMS took home the East Coast Championships Team Award, an honor for the team with the most top ten finishes throughout the weekend. Pepe noted that “each individual plays a unique role in making the entire Freestyle Program a success," adding, "I want to congratulate everyone involved, and thank you for making our Freestyle Program such a pleasure to be a part of.” The KSC/KMS Freestyle Program continues its commitment to youth development and programing, offing opportunities for age and ability level specific training and providing curriculum and training volume designed for varied stages of athletic development. With the addition of the Four Season Bag Jump Facility at the base of Killington, KSC/KMS has transitioned into year-round training, with camps offered throughout the spring, summer and fall.
