Rhi Lubaszewski- Academic Standout 11/16

It is with great enthusiasm that the KMS teaching faculty recognizes Rhiannon Lubaszewski as this week’s Academic Standout! Rhi is a U16 Women’s Alpine athlete, who recently moved to Vermont to attend KMS. Rhi received several nominations from her teachers, each recognizing her strong work ethic, resilience in the face of adversity, and her natural inquisitiveness within the classroom. All agree that she is an exceptional young academic who truly is an asset to any classroom.

English Department Co-Chair Nate Clifford was the first to put forth a nomination for Rhi this week. Nate states, “Rhi could easily be praised for the precision and care she places in her work.  Being a perfectionist is often a difficult burden, but never more so than when your teacher asks you to do edits and you've truly already done your best.  For most students, this frustrating set-back will cause an equal and opposite reaction -  giving up.  So although Rhi could easily be highlighted for the intense scrutiny she shows in her writing, or the endurance she models in the length of her assignments, the moment when Rhi really rose above an already high standard was when she faced the dreaded "So what?" on her meticulously prepared Western Humanities paper, and gracefully refused to accept defeat.  Rhi reminds us all that there is grace in humility and beauty in determination. “

Full-Term Math and Science teacher Adam Boshart seconded Rhi’s nomination. Adam comments, “Rhiannon rings like a bell in the night. She takes to the sky like a bird in flight.... Ok, those weren't my words, but Rhi has been absolutely essential in Earth Science class. Her natural curiosities lead her to make connections and ask relevant questions that surprise me almost every class period. She has proven that it is, in fact, possible to have fun AND be safe in the science lab at the same time. She shows the patience and perseverance necessary to achieve success at whatever she puts her mind to. Rhi is truly growing into a fearless young leader!”

Social Studies Department Co-Chair Courtney O’Keefe also stepped forward with a nomination of her own. Courtney writes, “Unlike the other teachers which have nominated her, I do not have Rhi as an actual student this year. That being said, I have had the pleasure of being her study hall proctor for several study halls this quarter and last. During her time in study hall, I have seen Rhi work rigorously on all her classroom assignments. She always effectively utilizes her time and is always willing to help her peers when they have a question. Several times I was able to chat with Rhi about her history work, and came to find her as a highly inquisitive student who is interested in learning many different subjects. I am excited to be able to contribute to the nominations for Rhi this week. Way to go, Rhi!”

Student Life Coordinator and Studio Art/Graphic Design/Photography teacher Eric Kuntz also supported Rhi’s recognition this week. Eric reflects, “Is a pleasure to have in class. She comes to class on time with all her assignments/projects done. Always enthusiastic for the next class project. Her eye for photography improves each week with new challenges. Rhi always asks great questions, and is always using her creative side of her brain to make outstanding photos.  Rhi is a very positive young lady with a bright future here at KMS. Keep up the outstanding work!”

Math Department Chair Brad Ramsay also added to the long list of nominations. He states, “Rhi's Geometry work is always thorough, and well organized.  She consistently gets her assignments done on time and is "present" and engaged in class discussions.  She is establishing a solid foundation in a class that very-much builds on itself.  Rhi's efforts are reflected in her excellent grades!’

Social Studies Department Co-Chair and Middle School Humanities teacher Ian Groezinger also adds his own reflection Rhi within his history class. Ian adds, “Rhi has been doing well in Wesetern Humanities.  She is an active participant in class and has been making great strides in her approach to analytical thought and writing.”

And rounding out this wonderful list of nominations is World Languages teacher and Global Citizenship Program Coordinator Malena Agin. Malena writes, “Rhi, what can I say that everyone else hasn't already so eloquently stated? You are awesome. Keep being awesome. Your smile is contagious. We have so much fun in French because you are always positive, cheerful, determined, and committed. Thank you and congratulations.”

An excellent recognition this week! Congratulations, Rhi! We are very proud of you! Keep up the excellent work!
