ADMISSIONS to Killington Mountain School
ADMISSIONS
Our admissions season is in full swing here at KMS, and I look forward to helping you navigate your way through the process.
Admission to Killington Mountain School is awarded based on a student-athlete's current academic and athletic standing and potential. Extracurricular interests and accomplishments also are considered. Being accepted into the KMS community involves a larger commitment to the KMS culture that prides itself on promoting respect, integrity, leadership, excellence, and responsibility.
KMS does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, sex, national origin, religion, or financial need in its admissions process.

HOW TO APPLY
Admissions Process
The admissions process has been designed to help the admissions committee become better acquainted with the applicant as an individual. Because KMS is a small community and offers a unique learning experience, each application is reviewed individually. The admissions committee typically makes a decision on completed applications within three weeks; families are notified shortly thereafter. In some cases, the admissions committee may decide to defer an applicant to the general admissions pool.
Each candidate is asked to complete and forward the following:
-
Complete the Online Application
-
Letters of recommendations from:
-
Current or recent teacher
-
Current or recent coach
-
Other — such as a guidance counselor, advisor, a second coach, or teacher
-
-
$50 non-refundable application fee
-
Current school transcript
-
Parent commentary (information you would like us to know about your child) — optional
-
Interview with the head of school and the director of academics
Admissions Schedule
-
Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis from January through April 1.
-
Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply before April 1.
-
Applications received between April 2-15 will be included in the general admissions pool and will be reviewed by April 30.
-
Applications received after April 15 will be considered on a space available basis.
AFFORDING KMS
We recognize that the cost of the Killington Mountain School experience is high, and while we believe that it remains a good investment in the future of each student-athlete, some families will need financial assistance in making that investment a reality. Financial aid at KMS is awarded to students who demonstrate need and who qualify according to KMS guidelines. Applicants for financial aid must have already been accepted to KMS.
Decisions are based on the following criteria:
-
Financial need
-
Demonstrated excellence in academic, athletic or extracurricular performance
-
Grade level
-
Personal conduct
All decisions are made on an individual basis by the KMS Tuition Assistance Committee, using recommendations from the School & Student Services of the National Association of Independent Schools. Financial aid at KMS is offered on an annual basis. A decision to re-award a grant is made each spring, taking into consideration the criteria listed above, as well as the student-athlete's overall contribution to the program. Parents may be asked to reapply through the School & Student Services each year.
Financial Aid Process and Schedule
The Parents’ Financial Statement is used by families and more than 2,100 K-12 schools across the country to manage the financial aid process.
Here's how it works:
-
Create an account.
-
Complete the Parents' Financial Statement application online, and submit additional required documents, check status, and/or make a changes. On-screen help guides you along the way.
-
The results of your Parents' Financial Statement are sent directly to KMS, and any other schools you indicate.
-
We encourage early applications for financial aid. Applications received after April 1 will be considered for as long as funds remain available.
