Cyclocross and XC Camps

The KMS CX Camp is a 6-day, 5-night boarding camp for junior cyclists CX racing age 13 to 18.  Immerse yourself in a week of cycling with like-minded peers, make new cycling friends, and have a lot of fun as you begin the journey toward meeting your cyclocross goals!   Through a combination of training rides, training races, skills work, on-bike games and drills, gym work, demonstrations and discussions, you will leave KMS ready to race. We will give you the tools you need to continue to improve long after the camp ends.  There will not be a lot of down time; this camp is targeted toward junior cyclists who are motivated to reach their potential in cyclocross.  Expect to be on your bike most of the week and go home tired; but it will be that satisfying tired that makes you feel good, strong, and totally excited for that first race!

  • Practice races and training rides

  • Proper technique for mounts/dismounts, sand, cornering, barriers, hole shots, run-ups, and off-cambers 

  • Strength and conditioning methods and plans 

  • Race preparation and course inspection

  • Race tactics and pit management

  • Bike maintenance, set up, and repair

  • Preparing for training/racing in inclement weather

  • Riding efficiently

  • Video analysis

  • Discussion on pathways to the elite levels of cyclocross   

  • The importance of tire pressure

  • Guest appearances from top collegiate and local pro racers. 

 

This camp is targeted toward motivated 13 to 18 year-old junior cyclocross racers of any ability.  Athletes will stay in the KMS dorm, make use of the KMS gym and other facilities, eat (nutritiously -special diets can be accommodated) in the KMS dining hall, and take advantage of the incredible terrain in the Killington area.  


This intensive session will have you well on your way to meeting your cyclocross goals!!

Killington/KMS Mountain Bike Summer Sessions will still include KMS coaching staff led by KMS Snowboard Program Director Jeff Juneau. Jeff has been involved in the mountain bike industry for 25 years, both as a competitor and lead shop mechanic. The coaching staff combines KMS athletic expertise and knowledge with mountain bike specific skills and development. Athletes will learn from our staff's bike handling, training, nutrition, and bike maintenance expertise. Join us for a Session filled with fun and progression!
 

Are you looking to develop and refine race techniques, or just get more comfortable around the mountain? KMS Downhill Mountain Bike Camps are designed to help riders of all ability levels progress. The KMS coaching staff is prepared to support in achieving your riding goals. With the Gravity Logic designed Killington Mountain network in our backyard, KMS riders have daily access to the best lift service terrain in the Northeast.

Camp Focus

  • Goals for athletes- Safe, Fun, Progress.

  • Building bike skills methodically and intentionally (based on Six Skills as outlined by PMBIA)

    1. Position & Balance (physiological)

    2. Operation of Controls (mechanical)

    3. Terrain Awareness (tactical)

    4. Direction Control (physiological)

    5. Pressure Control (physiological)

    6. Timing & Coordination (blending physiological, mechanical, & tactical)

  • Developing mechanical skills that include 

    1. Pre-ride bike inspection

    2. Basic bike maintenance (preventive)

    3. Trailside repairs (derailleur, brakes, tighten bolts, and flat repair)

    4. Suspension setup ( basic dampening and sag adjustments)

    5. Advanced suspension setup (air and oil volume changes, overhauls, etc)

  • Introducing riders to the culture of our sport

Ages

​Our downhill mountain bike camps are available as single, three or five-day camps and overnight accommodations are available with the three and five-day options. Camps are open to youth ages 7-17 years old.

 
Required Equipment

  • Full suspension mountain bike with disc brakes. If you do not have a full suspension bike, rentals are available through the Killington Resort.
    You can find current pricing here.   In addition to Killington’s great seasonal packages for Vermont residents, we are able to offer special “Camp Pricing” for out of state athletes in the KMS Downhill programs. These include a $200 lift ticket package for the week in addition to a $200 park bike rental with Full face helmet & pads. Please contact Jeff Juneau to help make arrangements.
