Freestyle Weekend Update

We had another eventful Freestyle weekend. The fresh snow made for prime skiing and jumping conditions all over the mountain. Coach Colby’s group “spent the morning checking out newly opened terrain. We skied up the fresh powder in Growler and on Devils Fiddle.” The athletes and coaches were ecstatic to finally ski (safely) through the woods and hit some of the fabled cliffs. Coach Marissa commented that “the kids had fun seeing the coaches hit the big jumps in Dream Maker.”

In preparation for upcoming competitions, the team seized the opportunity to train the A mogul course before it gets demolished for the NorAm rebuild. Nearly 50 athletes of all ages lapped the powder bump course and the huge bottom kicker. Coach Peter mentioned that his group “skied the A course and hiked the jump on Saturday morning. In the afternoon we worked on turns and line in the bump lines on Vertigo and Mouse Trap. And a shout out to Bennett for leading our group down Growler top to bottom!!"

On Sunday, the team headed to Sunapee for a mogul competition. In a maxed out field, against athletes from a different division, Coach Frank was extremely impressed by the “fantastic performances at the Sunapee. I was very proud of all the athletes that took hard falls in their first runs and came back and put in great second runs on a difficult course. Great run for Blix in his first ever mogul comp, beating over half of the field!” Coach Kevin Commented “At Sunday’s mogul comp the kids showed great heart and guts, Ryan came back after taking two hardcore slams in first run, laying down an impressive second run and leaving it all on the hill. Trae, Gabe and Maddie also stepped it up for the second run, pushing the pedal down, with Gabe throwing a sweet X off the bottom air – a trick that he had just ironed out during Saturday training. It was great to watch these athletes go for it!”

In another part of the East, we received great reports from a few athletes that attended Lake Placid for the NY Empire State Games. They especially enjoyed opening ceremonies in the Olympic rink. Check out the impressive results below. Congratulations to all of the athletes and a special should out to Ray and Kassidy for clinching the Overall titles and the F9s and M13s for sweeping the podium!
