Miha Kurner Joins KMS
Please join us in welcoming Miha Kurner to KMS as our Alpine Program Director and Head U18 Women’s Coach.
A 22 year ski racing professional, Miha comes to KMS most recently from Ski and Snowboard Club Vail where he coached athletes from the U14 to PG age groups. Miha was a member of the Slovenian Alpine Ski Team from a very young age and through his World Cup Career. He has competed at the highest levels with podium success for more than 15 years including the European Cup, South American Cup and World Cup, boasting World Cup bests: 19th place in super-combine, Bansko (2010), 29th place in slalom Kranjska Gora (2016). Miha has been ranked 35th in the world in Slalom and 55th in the World in Super Combined. He still keeps his competitive racing alive and places among the Top 10 in the World Pro Ski Tour, racing some of the top slalom and alpine athletes in the world.
Miha is lauded by his athletes, colleagues and their parents for his ability to translate his racing experience into empathetic and holistic coaching, with an emphasis on simplicity. His style has improved the national rank and success of every athlete he has worked with, many reaching the Top-3, 5 and 10 in their respective age groups nationally, and many reaching mentionable birth year world rank. We cannot wait for him to bring his world-class experience and approach to developing alpine ski racers to KMS.
Miha is a USSS Level 200 coach, a licensed physical trainer and both a PRO and Level 3 certified European Ski Instructor. His practice is rooted in sports science, driven by an interest in human kinematics, kinetics and biomechanics; all of which he studied when earning a Bachelor of Science in Sport Training at the University of Ljubljana. He meticulously tracks data and analyzes information to drive coaching insight and has a vast network of industry connections that will continue to elevate the KMS Alpine Program. Miha moves here with his wife, Anja, an art director and graphic designer--fun fact: she designed the Greece Ski Federation brand identity for recent slalom phenom AJ Ginnis.
We commend Pavel Stastny for his exceptional and expert work as Program Director and his decision to focus intently on serving as our Head U18/PG Men's Coach moving forward. Pavel and Miha will work in close partnership during this transition and in the time ahead placing KMS Alpine in an incredibly strong position to attack each season. #joinusatthetop
