Academic Standout - Robert C.

Please join the KMS teaching faculty in congratulating this week’s Academic Standout: Robert Coletta. Robert is a 11th grade Downhill Mountain Biking and Freestyle athlete, who comes to KMS from Mendon, VT. Robert was enthusiastically nominated this week in recognition of his admirable work ethic, his meaningful contributions to class discussions, and his dedication to academic excellence. He exemplifies the best of what KMS’ academic program has to offer: a student who is just as committed to excelling in the classroom as he is to his athletic pursuits!
Putting forth the first nomination for Robert this week is Full-Term English teacher, Lloyd Plourd. Lloyd states, “Robert is an exceptionally talented writer whose thoughtful, expressive work consistently stands out. He brings deep insight to class discussions, often making nuanced connections that enrich the learning environment for everyone. Beyond his academic gifts, Robert's genuine kindness and supportive character make him a true standout for this recognition."
Seconding this nomination as well as presenting for Robert at this week’s All-School meeting is Full-Term Math and Science teacher and KMS Registrar, Brigette Muller. Brigette writes, “I was able to sneak a peek at the other nominations for Robert, and a clear theme emerged across them all: Robert is the type of student who not only works hard to deepen his own understanding in every class, but also raises the level of understanding of everyone around him. Personally, all this talk of “raising the level of understanding of everyone around him” reminded me of something he accomplished two years ago during our science fair. Robert studied how different wall materials affect Wi-Fi signals. Never before have the results of a science fair project raised my own level of understanding, and actually helped me make decisions about how to finish the walls and floors in my own house! I think that's a perfect example of his intellectual curiosity, and how he really goes above and beyond academically and intellectually!”
And lastly, rounding out these nominations is Social Studies Department Chair, Advisory Coordinator, and College Counseling Co-Advisor, Courtney O’Keefe. Courtney reflects, “It is a pleasure to nominate Robert for this week’s Academic Standout! I am fortunate to have Robert in my Honors Psychology course this year, where he brings a keen eye and genuine intellectual curiosity to the study of human behavior and mental processes. His strong analytical skills and willingness to reflect on his own experiences allow him to engage with our course material in thoughtful and meaningful ways, often bringing fresh perspectives and ideas to our learning. Robert works diligently to go beyond simply learning concepts; instead, he consistently seeks to understand them more deeply, making valuable connections to broader themes while considering how psychological principles apply to the real-world experiences of both himself and others. His thoughtful approach to learning makes him a wonderful addition to our classroom and exemplifies a young scholar, who thrives in the Social Sciences.
It would also be remiss of me not to recognize Robert’s strong academic skills and commitment to personal responsibility. He is an exceptional young writer, who thoughtfully explores what he is learning through the written word. His written responses are consistently polished and thorough, demonstrating a high level of effort and a strong command of the writing skills expected of a junior. He is also a capable and thoughtful reader, able to tackle college-level case studies and primary sources with a critical eye for detail and meaningful connections. Finally, Robert demonstrates an admirable level of personal responsibility. He arrives on time, comes prepared with his work completed, and is ready to engage when class begins. Even when traveling, he takes the initiative to reach out and keep me informed of his progress and the work he is completing during periods of remote learning. Overall, Robert’s intellectual curiosity, academic commitment, and personal accountability make him a deserving recipient of this recognition. Congrats, young man!”
Our community could not be prouder! Congratulations, Robert! Way to set the bar high!
