Please join KMS' faculty in congratulating Maria Schroeck as this week’s Academic Standout! Maria, an 8th Grade Winter-Term Alpine athlete from New Hampshire, has been recognized for her outstanding work in the classroom. Her thoughtful engagement in class discussions, strong work ethic, and positive attitude set her apart. We are proud to celebrate not only her academic excellence but also the personal qualities that make her a role model within our community.
Middle School and BOOST STEAM teacher Ally Schermerhorn, who submitted the first nomination and presented for Maria at this week’s all-school meeting, shared, “Choosing this week’s Academic Standout was a no-brainer for myself and many others—Maria was the clear choice. She consistently stands out in my classroom with her insightful questions, thoughtful responses, and dedication to learning. She aces every quiz and assignment, often earning bonus points that boost her grades. Maria shows up every day, putting in authentic effort to be a leader, and I am constantly impressed by her motivation and drive. We will truly miss her as she transitions back home after Winter Term, but we look forward to seeing her again in the future!”
Seconding this nomination is Social Studies Department Co-Chair, Middle School Coordinator, KMS Humanities educator, and Registrar Ian Groezinger, who reflects, “Maria is a dedicated and hardworking student who consistently excels in the classroom. She is always punctual, engaged in discussions, and produces high-quality work with remarkable consistency. Her ability to advocate for herself ensures she stays on top of her responsibilities, even while traveling. Maria is a role model for her peers, demonstrating a strong commitment to learning and personal growth.”
Full-Term Math and Science teacher Adam Boshart couldn’t agree more. He writes, “Maria has been rock solid in Earth Science this Winter Term. Always on time, she never submits late work, and everything she turns in is of high quality. She keeps me informed of her travel schedule, and she just earned the highest grade in the class on the final assessment of the term. We’re going to miss Maria for the rest of the school year and are really looking forward to welcoming her back next fall.”
Rounding out the nominations is Social Studies Department Co-Chair and Advisory Coordinator Courtney O’Keefe, who comments, “I’ve heard from several of her teachers about her impact in the classroom this winter. Words like focused, thoughtful, dedicated, and resilient have come up time and again, highlighting what an exceptional learner she is. I’ve seen her hard work firsthand in our productivity hub, where her steely focus drives her success. It’s amazing to see such academic drive in someone so young—it will serve her well as she continues to grow. Congratulations, Maria! This recognition is well-earned and well-deserved. Be proud, and keep it up!”
Congratulations, Maria! We are proud to name you this week’s Academic Standout. Keep championing the qualities that make you successful in the classroom and beyond!
