Academic Standout - Gavin S.

Please join the KMS teaching faculty in congratulating Gavin S. as this week’s Academic Standout! Gavin is a 10th-grade U18 Alpine athlete from Chittenden, VT. He received strong nominations this week, each highlighting his natural curiosity, meaningful and impactful classroom participation, and creativity. It’s clear to all who teach him that Gavin is a student passionate about learning and dedicated to excellence both in and outside the classroom.

Offering the first nomination as well as presenting for Gavin at this week’s All-School meeting is Social Studies Department Co-Chair, Advisory Coordinator, and College Counseling Co-Advisor Courtney O’Keefe. Courtney writes:

“It is with great enthusiasm that I nominate Gavin Sullivan for Academic Standout this week!  It has been a pleasure having Gavin in my Honors Early American History course this year. From our very first class together, Gavin has consistently distinguished himself as a dedicated as well as inquisitive student of history. Guided by his natural curiosity and authentic interest in the subject, Gavin continually seeks to deepen his understandings of the world- both past and present- with the thoughtful goal of applying its lessons to the greater historical themes and concepts that allow for the creation of a better future for us all. Gavin is also one of the strongest participants in our course- asking insightful questions that inspire deeper exploration of the topics we cover, seeking clarification on challenging subjects, and offering fresh perspectives that add meaningful complexity to our class discussions. His work ethic is as strong as it is commendable. His assignments are polished, well-organized, and clearly demonstrate the growth of his knowledge and skill base. When given feedback, he eagerly embraces the opportunity to learn, improve, and grow these even further. Overall, Gavin is a true asset to our classroom. His kindness, humility, and love of learning have a positive impact on everyone around him. Way to go, Gavin! Thank you for being such an outstanding young academic and presence within our classroom!” 

Seconding this nomination is English Department Chair Dr. Mara Taylor. Mara states:

“In English, Gavin has shown academic responsibility by consistently turning in his work on time, showing up to class on time, and communicating with me effectively about absences. Where Gavin stands out, for me, however, is in the area of class participation. He consistently contributes, and he regularly raises the level of discussion through comments that add a new thought or idea to the topic at hand. Moreover, Gavin sometimes refers to the comments of others in his own comments: In this way, he recognizes the contributions of others, encourages others to participate, and creates a kind of momentum during class that is a teacher's dream. Put more concisely: Gavin makes every class better through his participation!” 

Offering a third nomination is Studio Art/Graphic Design/Photography teacher, Gold Program Director, and Yearbook Director Eric Kuntz. Eric reflects:

“Gavin consistently demonstrates creativity, focus, and a strong work ethic in the art room. His projects showcase both technical skill and a unique artistic voice, often blending bold ideas with careful attention to detail. Gavin approaches each assignment with enthusiasm and curiosity, always looking for new ways to express himself through his artwork. His positive attitude and willingness to experiment make him a wonderful role model for his peers. Congratulations, Gavin!”
