KMS Freestyle dominates in Lake Placid
The entirety of the Killington Mountain School Freestyle team as well as faculty, family and friends were on-hand to watch athletes from all over the world compete in the Putnam Freestyle World Cup this past Friday. Amongst the competitors were no less than four KMS alumni including 2015 graduate, Abe Studler competing in his first-ever World Cup. KMS students kicked off the event with spectacular foreruns from Hannah Soar and Cameron Robinson.
After the World Cup, the KMS athletes had the unique experience to compete on the same course where they had just watched the best in the world ski. The Eastern Freestyle tour's mogul events were held at the same venue just two days after the WC.
The KMS crew rode Friday's energy right through the weekend, displaying a dominating performance in the regional competitions. In Sunday's single moguls competitions, KMS swept the men's podium, with Ian Beauregard taking the win followed by Kalman Heims and Alex Lewis. KMS took eight of the top ten spots overall, with all the boys finishing in the top nine. On the women's side, KSC athlete Kia Schmid claimed a career best fourth place overall.
Sunday's dual mogul competition was not much different. The KMS Boys went 1, 3, 4, 6 with Alex Lewis taking home the victory. Kia Schmid improved on her best to finish second overall and Taylor Getz found her way back to the top ten with a seventh place finish.
Freestyle Program Director Kris Pepe commented, "I was really pleased with how the team skied this weekend. It's great to see them push each other and bring up the level of the whole team. Getting everyone in the top ten was really cool. I think that already having four victories by three different athletes really show the team's depth."
The team heads to Sunday River this weekend for another eastern Freestyle event.
