Killington Mountain School's Snowboard and SkiCross teams just returned from a series of NorAm “Holeshot” and REV Tour races at Sunday River, ME. Snowboard Program Director Jeff Juneau shared, "Conditions were challenging, with an aggressive refreeze making the course incredibly fast. The schedule was modified to ensure results for all athletes in the NorAm, and the skier's results ended up being based on their qualifier time trials instead of heats."
In the Snowboard “Holeshot” NorAm races, KMS athletes Ben Smith, Tye McBroom, Henry Wilson, and Logan Plourde all had their first NorAm starts. Ben Smith’s strong qualifiers advanced him to heat racing in both of the NorAm races, with NorAm veteran Matt Miller earning two Top 16 finishes. On the Ski side, Mazie Hayden and McKenna Latt both skied well in qualifiers before heats were cancelled due to track conditions.
For the REVolution tour event, KMS athletes topped the podium in both Men’s Snowboard and SkiCross. Matt Miller earned his first REV Tour podium with the gold, and Mazie Hayden continued her REV Tour dominance with another win. McKenna Latt made it into the Big Final and earned fourth place, with Ben Smith making it into the Small Final and coming home with sixth.
Coach Juneau commented on the results, “I am so proud of the work and focus our KMS athletes have shown this season. They continue to push themselves, and their results show it. The whole team had personal best results, and there were so many great moments. One of the most gratifying was to see Matt Miller earn his first REV tour podium with a gutsy and hard fought win. He has worked so hard over his four years at KMS. It is great a great example of what our community can help athletes achieve. In addition, seeing Mazie win another REV Tour is always fantastic, and Ben Smith’s impressive results as a first year FIS athlete in an international field, showcase his work ethic and potential.”
Next up for the group are trips are to Mt. Orignal WC for Matt Miller, and Calabogie, ON for Mazie Hayden to continue their NorAm race calendars.
Well done, everyone!
(special thanks to Doc Miller for the action shot of Matt!)
