Multiple Cyclocross podiums for KMS athletes in RI

The Killington Mountain School Cycling team headed to Warwick, RI for the NBX Gran Prix of Cyclocross last weekend where the team had solid success on what the team reported was a fun course with sand, roots, and many technical corners. Coach Brad Ramsay shared an update from the weekend of racing.

"Saturday was a solid day for all. Aliza Tobias led off, finishing just outside the top ten, and Johannes Stromski took eighth in the Men’s 3 race to hang on to his Series Leaders Jersey. Tyler Clark flatted in the first half lap, but impressively fought his way back to the top 30 once we got him on his “B” bike and back on course, and Maddie Smith and Leo Kirkpatrick-Baird (non-enrolled KMS cycling athletes) both just moved up into the Cat 3 ranks, and both held their own, showing that they clearly belonged at the next level!"

Ramsay continued, "Sunday was even better! Aliza took sixth, and was the second Junior in her race, and Tyler made up for the flat on Saturday as he, too, rode his way to a solid sixth place finish. Tyler had an awesome season, finishing third in the series Omnium for Elite Junior Men. Leo and Maddy once again posted nice finishes as riders new to their respective Cat 3 fields. Leo accumulated enough points this season to win the Men’s B Collegiate Cyclocross individual Omnium! Johannes rode hard in defense of his Series Leader’s Jersey. After a crash, he fought back to ninth, which was enough to keep him in the Leader’s Jersey, and end the season as the Overall Men’s Cat 3 Vittoria North East Cyclocross Series Omnium Champion! And last up for the weekend, Turner Ramsay had an epic race, leaving it all out there and finishing tenth among the Elite UCI Women! She was third among the Elite UCI U23's, and first among the Collegiate A riders. That effort earned Turner her first (and all-important) UCI point! She finished the year third in the Elite U23 Omnium!"

What's next for the team? Coach Ramsay shared, "We will continue to train and will enter some local races as we prepare for Cyclocross Nationals on January 8th in Hartford, CT. No matter what happens in Hartford, it will go down as an awesome cyclocross season for all of our athletes! Perseverance and hard work paid off. All have had some serious successes of which to be proud. Highlights include Leo winning the Men's B Collegiate Cyclocross Omnium, Aliza’s incredible rise from first-time cyclocross racer to the top of the Women’s 4 Field, Johannes rising to the top of the Men's 3 field (and picking up some pretty cool barrier skills along the way!), Turner ending the season ranked first in the nation among 17-18 year-old women and gaining her first UCI Point, and Tyler Clark qualifying for the Canadian Jr National Cyclocross Team and being invited to represent Canada at the 2017 UCI World Cyclocross Championships!"
