Parents' Weekend a great success

October 11, 2017

Columbus Day Weekend was an amazing opportunity for full-term and winter-term families to unite here in Killington and at KMS. Not only is it a beautiful time of year in this region, with colorful foliage all around and cool temperatures, there was also plenty to do over the weekend. Most families arrived on Friday, either dropping off items to sell at Killington Sk Club's annual Ski and Bike Swap, or making purchases at the sale. Saturday was a full KMS day, with groups meeting for a group road bike ride or hitting the mountain bike trails. Then the entire crew had lunch back at school, and meetings took place between parents, coaches, and teachers. Winter-term students got set up with schedules for their classes, which will begin in just a few short weeks from now, and the older students checked in about their progress with the college application process. After individual meetings, winter-term families met with teachers and coaches in the conference room, where April Hayden, Amy Allen, Gar Trayner and Meghan Girardi gave academic, athletic, and student life presentations. The time at school was followed by a parent social across the street at the Highline Lodge, where Head of School Tao Smith presented plans and renderings for a campus expansion project to the group. On Sunday, families braved some rain and participated in the annual hike up Killington, followed by lunch back at school. It was unanimously agreed that Parents' Weekend will be an annual event, where full-term and winter-term families can unite with teachers, coaches, and staff and enjoy a fun, productive, and bonding three days together. Thanks to everyone who made the trip!
