Tao Smith and Mike Solimano talk World Cup with Mikaela Shiffrin
There was a special buzz in the air at this year’s USSA New England Snow Ball, held on Thursday, September 29th at Royale in Boston: the upcoming women’s World Cup alpine races in Killington on November 26-27 were a topic of much discussion and excitement. It was a star-studded evening with athletes like Mikaela Shiffrin, Julia Ford, and Ted Ligety in attendance, circulating among the crowd. There were also many awesome items to bid on in both the silent and live auction, the proceeds from which went to benefit athletes from the U.S. Ski Team, U.S. Snowboarding, and U.S. Freeskiing.
Head of School Tao Smith and Killington’s President and General Manager Mike Solimano chatted with Shiffrin about the upcoming races to be held on Killington’s Superstar, which she discussed with much enthusiasm and excitement, recognizing the gravity of having the best in the world on stage in New England and the excitement that young ski racers feel about bearing witness to the awesome event; this will be the first time the East coast has hosted a World Cup in 25 years. Julia Mancuso, Mikaela Shiffrin and Lindsey Vonn will be in town along with a field consisting of the the best women’s technical alpine skiers in the world. Saturday’s GS and Sunday’s SL both have 9:30 am first run times, and with free admission for spectators there is no excuse not to come up and take in this epic event.
For any KSC/KMS alumni in the area that weekend, the school will be hosting an alumni gathering on Saturday the 26th at Killington’s Highline Lodge from 4:30-6:30. Click here for more details!
